(May. 7-11, 2018)
On their arrival to the hotel they were staying at , the Headmaster greeted them with a speech in Spanish, English Polish and Romanian! As one of the students in the project is a member of a professional “flamenco” ballet, we agreed to have a performance for them and a worksop to teach them how dance the basic steps. They did a good job!!
On the second day they had a reception at the Town Hall by Local authorities. The Delegate gave them a warming welcome speech and they were taken to a visit of the main landmarks in our town followed by a ride on the tourist train. Afterwards, the students exchanged their presentations, videos and script dramatizations, attended classes with their Spanish mates and had a meal all together.
On Wednesday we all travelled to Sevilla, capital city of our region, we had a walking tour around the centre and visited the Metropol Parasol, the university and “La Maestranza” Bullring. It was an exhausting day !
The boat trip to Cádiz on Thursday was extraordinary!! The Spanish students assumed their roles of hosts and explained to their guests the wonders of the city as if they were professional guides.Apart from that, we also visited the picturesque Tavira Watch Tower, the archeological Roman Museum and even had time to do street campaign, delivering flyers and talking about our project. Back to Rota and after some working seminar at school we had a “farewell” party at a discotheque near the school that the Town Hall had allowed us to use. One of the Spanish students is “almost” a professional and reputed DJ and he loved to help. We all dance together “la Macarena” as well as the traditional Romanian dance “Brasoveanca” we all have become truly fond of.
DISCO NIGHT!
On Friday morning we had a workshop to reinforce social sympathy: working in mixed groups they had to find, as quick as possible, words related to solidario in English, Polish Spanish and Romanian and stick them together (but the words were all lost in botes full of sand!!!) We had the visit of the Local Press-“Habitantes y gente de Rota”. After this, there was an exhibition of Acrosport on behalf of Spanish students, followed by a cuisine workshop , where teachers, students and volunteer parents enjoyed preparing-and tasting- our traditional “arranque” ( a delicious variant of the well-Known “salmorejo”).
After this appetizer we all shared a wonderful “paella”, garlic shrimps and other Spanish “delicatessens”.
That evening we came across the performance of one of our students in the street!!
and the performance of an Andalusian horse dancing!!
